Augusta Pride Parade and Festival
Sat. June 23rd, Augusta Commons The Augusta Pride Festival is a family-friendly festival for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender (GLBT) community as well as their straight allies, friends and families. The goal is to bring the community closer together for purpose of celebrating diversity and helping to educate our community. As the 3rd largest non-profit festival in the CSRA, the Augusta Pride Festival has been growing steadily each year since the first celebration in 2010. This was the first year that GHSU had any presence at the event. GHSU Equality and ASU Lambda Alliance, gay-straight student alliance, co-sponsored a table, sponsorship, and marched together in the parade! It was great to see an institution with such a large and important presence and history in Augusta represented at PRIDE. People representing all aspects of the GHSU and ASU communities, not just those identifying as LGBTQ, came out and showed their support and enjoyed the festivities At our table, we sold merchandise, distributed information, collected donations, and signed up new members. Special thanks to Robert White and ASU Lambda Alliance for all their hard work in organizing and running out table. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported GHSU Equality in out first Augusta PRIDE. |
National LGBT Health Awareness Week

In keeping with the week's theme, "Come Out for Health", GHSU Equality "Came-Out" to the GHSU communtiy. Our celebration was highlighted in the Augusta Chronicle, GHSU Connection, and an enterprise-wide email newsletter written by VP of Diversity Inclusion, Dr. Kent Guion. We would like the thank the MCG-GHSU Chapter of the American Medical Student Association for co-sponsoring the week. Special thanks also go out to the GHSU Office and Diversity and Inclusion and MCG Office of Diversity Affairs and their staff for the hardwork and support before, during, and after the celebration. Our group nor this event would have been possible without them. click here for more info |
April was GHSU Diversity Month
The GHSU Office of Diversity and Inclusion celebrated April as National Diversity Month. The office sponsors several diversity months throughout the year, but currently does not have an LGBT celebration. So, this was our chance to get involved and encourage GHSU to include the LGBT community in their definition of "diversity".
